Joint-showcase of CODED CULTURES Festival and Japan Media Arts Festival @ ISEA 2010 Ruhr
The cooperation between CC and JMAF has been established during the »Japan – Austria Year 2009«. It opened the opportunity to exchange emerging artistic projects, ideas and cultural references and led to a sustainable network of creative contents and project-based interactions between artists, scientists, designers and the participating audience. This year it was a great opportunity to have a show at Dortmunder Kunstverein as part ISEA 2010 Ruhr. It was the first time to realize a collaborative show with selected artists from each festival. After one year of cooperations Georg Russegger was invited to make a presentation about CODED CULTURES at the Japan Media Arts Festival togther with Takahiro Kaneshima (Director of FEC and co-producer of CODED CULTURES Japan). CODED CULTURES is a binational festival (Austria – Japan) as part of the official »Austria-Japan Year 2009«. Its aim is to explore new artistic practices and creative ability profiles within media integrated project-cultures and digital media related arts, focusing on Japan and Europe. The main focus is to investigate the exchange of creative cultures and to give artists, curators, scientists from the field of new media related fields a platform to discuss and present their works and ideas. The festival »CODED CULTURES – Exploring Creative Emergences« is addressing questions regarding the codes of creative cultures and artistic practices, which are based on new trans-disciplinary and hybrid developments of culture and art under the conditions of a contemporary digital media-age and transformations of related artistic explorations.

Japan Media Arts Festival has been an annual event in Tokyo since 1997 and in this year the 13th festival will take place. From 12th to 20th of September, the exhibition Japan Media Arts Festival in Vienna 2009, presented by The Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan, and Computer Graphic Arts Society is taking place. Since the JMAF09 is a cooperation partner of CODED CULTURES, Georg Russegger has been asked to be the main coordinator of the JMAF09 in Vienna.

Binational Festival to explore new artistic-creative Ability-Profiles within media-integrated Delineation-Cultures
As part of the official “Austria-Japan Year 2009”, Coded Cultures functions as a creative intermediation-platform in both countries. 140 years of diplomatic relations are the occasion for the presentation of interrelated emergences between “Creative Cities” like Vienna and Yokohama demonstrate them. For this reason an outstanding number of Japanese Artists, Curators and Scientists will exchange their knowledge and practices with colleagues from Austria, Europe and an interested audience during the Symposium (28th – 31st of May) and the Exhibition (27th May – 7th June) of Coded Cultures. The executive team of “Coded Cultures – Exploring Creative Emergences”, represented by Dr. Georg Russegger, Mag. Matthias Tarasiewicz and Mag. Michal Wlodkowski, is responsible for the contents and organization of the festival.
